In my 30+ years on the internet, I have never been treated the way I have been by SimpleLogin/Proton... I had a SimpleLogin lifetime account sinds 2022 and used this for literally all my e-mails (using a few custom domains that I own). End of December (Merry Christmas!) I noticed that something was wrong with my e-mails. After some initial troubleshooting, I tried logging on to the SimpleLogin dashboard, but to no avail: I could not log in. Tried resetting my password, to no avail, so I sent a request to their helpdesk. The answer was simple and short: my account had been disabled due to "abuse". I freaked out (I mean, from that moment onwards, ALL my emails bounced) and first did everything to find another service (thanks addy.io, you were great!) and after that was done and emails were functioning again, I reached out to SimpleLogin again to ask for more explanation. They refused to provide further information and simply reiterated "abuse" and that the decision was final. No warnings, no questions, nothing. I can assure you, I did not abuse anything. Sure, I probably technically violated their TOS by signing up with a service twice or something, but never anything that would really need to be called "abuse". But as I don't get any further explanation, I have no idea what triggered this. Moving, I of course wanted to load all my aliases into the new service (I use unique aliases for each service/website, so there are a LOT of aliases), so I reached out again, asking if they would provide me with an export of my data. They right out refused, claiming that my account was terminated and this was no longer possible. I won't leave it at that and will try to use GDPR legislation to eventually get it, but as a lower priority. And as a final blow, today, they charged my credit card (I had set up automatic payments) for the next year... Even if my account and their service is gone. I mean... Nowhere in this whole process did I have a real "human" interaction, someone who might care about their customer, everything seemed either bots or copy/paste standard replies, although it usually took multiple days go even get a response. I was contemplating moving to Proton for a lot of stuff, but after this: never again, this was absolutely disgraceful.

Had my account deactivated without reason. After no response from support after 2 days, I switched to a self-hosted alternative. They did eventually reply, and my account magically worked again, but I have no trust or confidence in SimpleLogin now.

Auch nicht für Geld. Unclaimed ist fair. Claimed gibt das Mikrofon — nicht den Radiergummi.
