Mystery Machine 4 ever
We rented the Mistery Machine and were very happy with the camper as well as with the very straightforward and easy pick up and drop off process that took us maybe 10 mins in total. It is an old car (as advertised) but has everything you might need. Furthermore its compact size made it easy to drive and park. The gas cooker didn't work for us though but with BBQs being available everywhere that wasn't a problem for us.

Disappointing experience – vehicle and service well below standard
Unfortunately, we had a really disappointing experience with Campervan Village and wouldn’t recommend them based on our rental. From the moment we picked up the campervan, there were a number of issues that suggested it hadn’t been properly checked or prepared before being handed over to us. The right rear sliding door wouldn’t open from the outside, while the left rear sliding door wouldn’t open from the inside. For a campervan where you’re constantly getting in and out of the rear, this was particularly frustrating. There were also several basic things that simply weren’t ready for a new rental. The vehicle was given to us with very little petrol, the rear water tank was almost empty, and the gas bottle for the cooker was empty. The supplied cooking pot and utensils were rusty, and the esky was in poor condition and difficult to close properly. What made the experience worse was the service when we collected the vehicle. We felt we had been misled or, at the very least, given unclear information about the insurance options before arrival. When we tried to ask questions about this at the depot, the staff member we dealt with seemed completely uninterested in helping us. Our questions were repeatedly met with a blunt “no” and a shake of the head rather than any attempt to explain the situation or help us understand what we were paying for. Considering the amount of money we paid for the rental and additional protection, we expected the campervan to be properly maintained, stocked with the basic essentials advertised/provided, and ready to use. More importantly, we expected reasonable customer service when we had questions. There were simply too many issues for this to feel like an isolated oversight. Campervan Village needs to improve its pre-rental vehicle checks, maintenance and customer service considerably. Unfortunately, after our experience, we would not use Campervan Village again or recommend them to others.

Cheap and cheerful campervan rental
Cheap and cheerful campervan rental. I couldn't complain about the rental that I had. It was great to drive, fun little rooftop. It wasn't a shiny new car, which to me is a bonus. Everything worked as described. Very happy with customer service, really helpful. All up a great experience and I will use this company again. I for one don't feel the need to pay huge amounts of money for a swanky car and tent which I am then scared to use. I rented a hyundai i20 with a rooftop camper for a week and had a ball:)

I can't recommend Campervan Village at all…
I can't recommend Campervan Village after our recent NT campervan hire. Within 10 minutes of leaving the depot we discovered the air conditioning didn't work, despite being told everything had been checked before pickup. From there, the problems just kept coming: Underinflated tyres (26 PSI instead of 36 PSI). No windscreen washer fluid/system. Kitchen lights and LED light bar not working. Only around 20 km of fuel on collection. Engine warning light came on during the trip. While mechanical issues can happen, the customer service was far more disappointing. We were repeatedly promised callbacks that never happened, passed between Campervan Village and 24-hour roadside assistance, and even told to "buy a spray bottle" instead of receiving assistance for the failed air conditioning. We also prepaid $125 for a poor-quality bedding package that we had to argue to receive, and after the trip were asked to pay a $50 administration fee just to have two forgotten souvenir magnets posted back to us. Campervan Village's resolution was a refund of just 25% of the hire cost ($280) before shutting down any further discussion. In our opinion, that didn't come close to compensating for spending a Northern Territory road trip without air conditioning, losing valuable holiday time trying to resolve the issues, and the stress of an engine warning light appearing before our flight home. This experience showed a lack of vehicle preparation, poor communication, and little interest in resolving customer issues. We travel to the NT regularly, but based on both the condition of the vehicle and the way our concerns were handled, we won't be hiring from Campervan Village again.
