Offbeat Ndoto Camp in Maasai Mara, Kenya – truly magical
This was our sixth safari with Sam, so that alone speaks volumes about how much we love the way Sam researches the locations, the lodges, their management and staff, so we have every confidence that we will thoroughly enjoy every aspect of our trip. Yes, we used to ask lots of questions and do our own due diligence before the first couple of safaris with Sam, but now we know we can devote our energies to other aspects of the trip. We love the way he selects boutique lodges, ensuring they align with his values and meet his high standards for excellence. And we love that Sam keeps his groups small, with just 5 this time we had ample space in the game drive vehicle with all our camera equipment. Offbeat Ndoto Camp was an absolute delight. The sleeping tent was awesome, the dining/living room lodge was incredible, and the lunch spot in the open above a 10-foot cliff by a meandering river allowed us to dine as one with nature yet perfectly safe from the hippos below. The staff were lovely, making us feel at home and like we’d known them for years. They were always available to answer questions about what we saw. And the hot water bottles in our bed at night, and coffee or hot chocolate delivered to our tent before morning game drive, left us feeling especially pampered. The guides/drivers were very adept at getting us to the perfect spots both for the lighting and viewing the wildlife behaviour. The guides, staff and management, all went above and beyond to make this a most memorable experience. Their deep knowledge, respect and passion for the wildlife was clear and abundant. You found a real gem here Sam! Sam was always available for photographic guidance both on drives and back at camp. Since I’d upgraded my camera equipment, I was definitely in need of Sam’s vast expertise, and he always delivered. As much as new equipment and technology can be daunting, Sam is so relaxed and friendly in his style that the experience always felt like a fun adventure. We’ve been on safaris with most of the other guests before, so this was more like a reunion. So this says a lot about the kind of atmosphere that Sam creates, where everyone feels welcome, relaxed, and part of something special, and eager to return for more. Even though we always have high expectations, Sam again exceeded them. If you have a passion for wildlife photography and want a safari experience with other like-minded people, booking with Sam and RAW Photographic is a great choice. We’ve already booked our next safari with Sam. Thank you, Sam, for making this a truly memorable experience, yet again!

Sam delivers exceptional safari experiences
We just completed our sixth safari with Raw Photographic. Our recent one in Mara North, Kenya was, at times, almost impossible to believe—so many moments where we found ourselves thinking, is this really happening? Observing the behaviour of such magnificent animals at close proximity was extraordinary. On previous trips I’d only ever used my cell phone, but Sam gently guided me into the world of photography. I’m still at the very beginning of the learning curve, yet excited to keep improving and capture more “forever-memory” moments. My husband & other guests were more advanced photographers keen to learn from Sam's extensive knowledge. Sam’s talent for choosing small, boutique lodges—combined with his passion for photography and Africa—creates an absolutely perfect experience every time.

A Truly Memorable Safari Experience - Brilliantly Organised and Expertly Led
Just back from a 6 day photography safari to Madikwe Game Reserve in South Africa with my 13-year-old son, and I can’t thank Sam enough for what was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. On the games drives Sam’s calm, grounded presence, and his ability to work closely with the local guide to position us perfectly for both light and behaviour, made all the difference. His photographic guidance was delivered with quiet confidence — never overbearing, always helpful — and tailored to both me (a total novice) and my son (more experienced). We both learned so much. There were plenty of awe-inspiring wildlife moments, some images we’ll treasure, great food, great company, and more than a few good laughs along the way. Sam created the kind of atmosphere where everyone felt comfortable, connected, and part of something special — and that made the whole experience even more memorable. Huge thanks for an unforgettable trip. We’d love to do another in the future!

Second Trip with RAW -- New Tradition!
My dad is retired after a lifetime career at our states electric company—he started out of college with a degree in Electrical Engineering climbing poles and ended his career in the proverbial corner office. Sam was so attentive as I frequently capture power lines and such in my travels with my dad in mind. One of sunrise drives was so special as Sam set up this beautiful scene from advising me on the camera settings and directing our guide for the perfect positioning. I was so pleased with the shot! This was from my second with RAW Photographic—what I once thought was a one-and-done bucket list item has now become a tradition. See you in two years, Sam!

Adventure of a lifetime
I recently had the pleasure of joining Raw Photographic for a 2nd trip to Madikwe with Sam Cox. Being a photographic safari, we were presented with countless opportunities to get up close & personal with our subjects. With Sam’s tutoring, all guests took some incredible photographs of some memorable animal encounters. There were a lot of gasps, a lot of laughs and a lot of good friends made. Sam’s expertise & passion about Africa and its wildlife are obvious to all. I cannot recommend Raw Photographic strongly enough, you will have the adventure of a lifetime.
