Fabelhafter Tag

My First Visit to Vabali Berlin Was Traumatic – And Their Response Made It Worse

I am putting the experience date as July as this was the date of the court summons so it’s finally over! I visited Vabali Berlin on 3rd May 2025 as a first-time guest, travelling from the UK. I had heard wonderful things and was genuinely looking forward to a restorative experience. Instead, during my visit, a male guest approached me under the guise of friendliness and then sexually assaulted me – grabbing my breasts and attempting to penetrate my anus with his hand. When confronted, his only justification was: "I wasn't thinking." I reported this immediately. The staff on the ground, particularly Felix, responded with professionalism and compassion. They called the police. I am grateful for their immediate response. Before the assault, The perpetrator told us he was a regular guestwho also frequented Vabali's other locations. When I spoke to staff, they indicated this was not the first incident of its kind at the spa. What has compelled me to write this is not just the assault itself, but how Vabali's management responded when I reached out afterwards. I wrote to Vabali seeking accountability. I asked them to reassess how their spaces are monitored, how repeat visitors are evaluated, and how they can more actively protect guests – particularly those who are new, vulnerable, and trusting. I specifically asked whether they would take legal action against this individual and expressed hope they would ban him from all their locations. The response I received from Benjamin Bärschneider, Administration Manager, was deeply damaging. He described incidents like mine as "negligible." Let me repeat that: the Administration Manager of Vabali Berlin called what happened to me – a sexual assault – "negligible." He also: * Dismissed staff statements as "misleading" * Claimed "no one can look inside a person"to prevent such incidents – a complete abdication of responsibility * Provided no answers about how they would improve monitoring, evaluate repeat visitors, or protect guests * Gave no confirmation that this offender had been banned from any Vabali location His response told me that Vabali's reputation mattered more than my safety. Someone who frequents their multiple locations was apparently still welcome – and my assault was "negligible." Their position was essentially: "We can't prevent it, so it's not our fault." That is not good enough. Safeguarding is not prescience. It is proactive systems, training, policies, and action. Vabali showed none of that. Months later after the British police came to my home for further statements - my anger was reignited. I reached out to Vabali's team on LinkedIn. I explained that Benjamin's response was not good enough and that calling a sexual assault "negligible" is unacceptable. They apologised and told me to send a reply to Benjamin, promising he would apologise directly to me. I am still waiting. They had an opportunity to show genuine accountability. Instead, they made empty promises and did nothing. This case was taken to court. The German court believed me. The perpetrator was charged with sexual coercion. He now has a criminal record. The justice system worked. Vabali did not. I am sharing this because other women deserve to know the truth – and because Vabali must do better. If they truly care about guest safety, they need to: 1. Ban this individual from all their locations – and prove it. 2. Implement proper safeguarding training for all staff on identifying and intervening with predatory behaviour. 3. Create clear policies for handling reports of sexual misconduct. 4. Be transparent with victims instead of gaslighting them. 5. Stop calling sexual assault "negligible." Until they take real, demonstrable action – not vague promises or "re-education" – I cannot recommend this establishment to anyone, especially not to women visiting alone or for the first time. Go to Vabali as a woman at your own risk. They will take your money, market themselves as a sanctuary, and if something happens to you, they will call it "negligible." They will hide behind "we can't see inside people" instead of taking responsibility. They will promise you an apology and never deliver. You deserve better. We all deserve better.
