Poor customer service

I did this back in may but after I payed I decided I no longer wanted to go through with my name change with these people and instead move forward with it on the gov.uk website with guideance from a relative. When I emailed and explained that I wanted to use an alternative option, they did not acknowledge my refund and instead asked me what the different option was, so said I was moving forward on the government website. Then they did what felt like attempted intimidation by telling me that everybody would be able to see and google my former name, new name and address then that was followed up by my choice being criticised saying it was odd someone would tell me to do this, I told them I did not care and would just like my refund processed as they had still not a knowledged it at all. The person emailing me from them said the refund had already been processed then got snarky and said “good luck with the enrolled process. Hopefully they cleared the 5 month backlog” honestly this whole email exchange was just very unprofessional and it went back and forth over a day before they even acknowledged my refund. I wouldn’t recommend going with these people, something about this place did not feel right. They also charge for a title change which is completely uneeded as it’s free to change your title in the uk and you don’t need to go through any deedpoll to do it. Honestly the whole thing felt off and fishy with these people, and the attitude of whoever worked customer service was absolutely shocking.

Dear James, You placed your order at 17:37 and then emailed us later in the evening to ask for your order to be cancelled and refunded. We processed your refund for you within a few hours of receiving your request and emailed you just after midnight (00:08) the same evening explaining the refund had already been processed. There was no "back and forth over a day" as you stated above. As you were correctly advised by a colleague, the enrolled process means you are voluntarily disclosing your old name, new name, and residential address for the whole world to inspect on the London Gazette's website. You can clearly see that every entry contains the old name, new name, and residential address of everyone disclosed for the whole world to see. Incredibly, this applies to child name changes too. This is what you are voluntarily agreeing to when enrolling a deed poll. An enrolled deed poll is no more effective at changing your name. We believe nearly everyone who decides to use the enrolled process has been duped by the gov.uk website into doing so. We believe this is an attempt to create a publicly accessible database of UK name changes without appearing to infringe on the liberties of British and Northern Irish citizens. This is what my colleague communicated with you. You confirmed that you wish to still use the enrolled method, so we cancelled and refunded your order in full the same evening you placed it. Furthermore, if you click on any of those name changes listed on The Gazette's website, you will note that they are only just getting round at the end of July 2026 to publishing name changes that were started in October 2025 and processed by HM Courts and Tribunals Service in April 2026. That's nearly a year's wait for a process that costs more and is an invasion of your privacy yet does not result in any benefit beyond creating a public record of a private affair. We are unsure of what we communicated to you that was untruthful or unprofessional. It was a red flag to us that somebody told you the enrolled process was more convenient than the unenrolled process. If you told us the reason you wish to use the enrolled process was that you wish to make your name change public information, then we would not have advised against doing so. We apologise for advising you on a process that it appeared you did not fully understand (and would have grave consequences for your privacy) and that it came off as "intimidation". Furthermore, we charge an optional £4 to include a title change in your deed poll documentation if you wish to also change your title as well as your name. This is so that you do not need to explain to your record holders every time you show them your deed poll that you also wish to change your title as well. The wording of the document is modified throughout to reflect it being a Deed of Change of Name and Title, and not just a Deed of Change of Name. Our female clients who are divorcing from their husbands but do not wish to wait for the divorce to finalise to revert to their maiden name and title, and our transgender clients, appreciate this extra service particularly.
