Airport rental for a week

We rented a car via jet2 from Larncaca Airport for the week. Shuttle to the rental was quick and chaps at the rental polite. I forgot to purchase full insurance at pos and was thrilled I could do this at rental office as well as add another driver, both at a really reasonable price. Chap at rental office encouraged taking pictures and video of car when we collected. Honestly great service. These 1* reviews for charging for damage not caused must not have purchased full insurance which is always worth it for peace of mind and in case anything is missed.

I have used Aercar about 7 or 8 times. This is the last.

I have used Aercar about 7 or 8 times both from Paphos and Larnaca (I already used them earlier this year). On previous occasions I would have described them as cheap and cheerful - the cars are a mixed bag of used stuff, some imported from Japan (often with amusing Satnav that insists you're somewhere in Tokyo). I've never been that bothered provided it gets from A to B. I would have written a good review but now I have to say they've gone downhill in a big way. First, the booking. I arrived at 9:30pm to find they didn't have my booking. After an hour of messing around it transpired they had given my car away to someone with the same surname earlier in the day (they had different first name, email, telephone number, nationality but hey...) Eventually, when they realised they screwed up, they gave me the other persons car. However, I wasted an hour at night with my elderly mother waiting up for me to arrive. No apology or compensation. Their insurance terms have now changed. I travel frequently enough to have an annual car insurance excess policy so I never take the extra insurance offered. On every previous occasion I've rented there they've just taken a deposit for damage. Now, on this occasion they've extended it to make the customer liable for the cost of breakdown recovery! This is crazy considering the state of the sh*tboxes they rent out. This will become important later in the review. On to collecting the car - well the damage form they give you is woefully inadequate. This has always been the case every time I rent from them. There are a couple of minor things on the form yet the car is usually pretty well knocked about (many more scratches and dents than on the form). At least they advise you to take pictures and video before driving off. We will come back to the form later... 4 days in to the trip and I'm driving back from Kakopetria when the engine warning light comes on and the car goes in to limp mode. Power drops significantly (a 1-litre ford focus has a hard enough time driving up a mountain - in limp mode its hilariously bad). I pull over and have a look under the bonnet to check the oil. Of course, the engine cover is missing and cable are hanging all over the place from their broken clips. Its probably one of these cables bouncing around that's upset it. Anyway, the oil level is ok although its so black it definitely hasn't been serviced recently. Now, given the threats of charging for recovery for their badly maintained junk, I drive it back in limp mode to their office. There is a minor argument about not returning it full of fuel (of course I didn't want to drive it any further than necessary in case it did break down so I wasn't going to drive it to the petrol station). But we get that sorted and I get a 'new' (piece of junk) car. (Apparently I was lucky there has been cancellations.. what do they do if the car breaks down and they don't have any cancellations??) Same drill, damage form is undermarked so I video the car and off we go. Oh dear, what a terrible car - the brakes are dreadful - they stop but not without a lot of force on the pedal. And the clutch is biting right at the top. But there's only a few days left of my trip so I get on with it. But now then I find myself trying to do a steep hill-start. It has an electronic handbrake - the kind that goes off automatically once you're moving. Unfortunately, due to the worn-out clutch, the handbrake disengages itself before the clutch has bitten causing it to roll back. I hit the brake pedal (hard) and try again. Same problem and I'm now inches away from rolling in to the car behind. The only way I can pull away safely is to heel and toe the brake & throttle with one foot while letting the clutch up with the other. Luckily it works and I don't roll in to the car behind. Now the return experience. I've never had a problem - for the most part they barely look at the car. I've always thought they know the form is rubbish and they don't really care as long as you haven't smashed it up. But this time the guy who came out was already on the warpath. He didn't actually look, he just went straight to a particular point on the car (under the sill under the left rear door) and asked what happened. It's almost as if he knew the dent was there... there was a moment of anxiety as I thought my video of the car hadn't really caught the underside but luckily the dent was just in shot so he couldn't argue. This leaves the question of whether they really have any legal comeback if the video you take happens to miss previous damage. It would be easy enough to show all the other damage that ISN'T marked on the form so I would say there's a lot of reasonable doubt. They've gone from cheap and cheerful to avoid like the plague. I will never use them again.

A very poor company with exceedingly terrible customer service. Reported an issu during my rental period abroad and this was over a month ago, still haven't received any response to several emails that I have sent. Gave me a vehicle that was not the same type as my booking and would not assist with replacement. If you want to be scammed and fobbed off then book with Aercar.

Hard sell to buy their extra insurance…

Hard sell to buy their extra insurance as i booked through a 3rd party online. Once the guy realised I wasn't buying the extra insurance he became extremely difficult and obstructive. Refusing to let me view car under lit conditions as I arrived at night time. Would not release keys until I signed the paperwork on a car I was unable to view in lit conditions, he just toldme to film it on my phone. I found additional damage to what theyd marked on the paperwork which he refused to acknoledge and stayed sat on his ass. He then proceeded to remove €1000 from my credit card account directly, rather than hold it as a pending payment. I didn't realise this till 2 days later. My opinion is he done that deliberately to inconvenience me further. Don't know his name, but he's a white British guy, painted fingers, feminine, in paphos branch. Rude, obstructive, zero customer service skills! Only thing his interested in is commision. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid!!

Avoid at any cost

Two star because pickup was on time and staff was OK. 1. Breaks are very low and needs a lot hard to press to apply. 2. Steering is reverberating like hell and my hand started pain after my first ride from airport to hotel. 3. Steering doesn’t move tyres until it moves a lot - having an unacceptable play. I can’t believe such cars could be put on Hire. I paid over £300 for insurance and protection else you may see thounsands in the bill if anything happens.
