Acmer K1 Laserengraver

I bought an Acmer K1 (7-watt) laser engraving machine. I have had it for a year now and am still very satisfied with it. The device does everything it is supposed to do. I engrave on faux leather coasters as well as ceramic tiles, poplar, glass, anodized aluminium, cork, oak, etc. The after-sales service is also top-notch! When there are questions and/or problems, a solution is always sought. I am extremely satisfied with Acmer.

Updated review

Updated review After going backwards and forwards with Acmer over my 24/48 watt laser module which is unusable due to the focal lens shattering. I am extremely disappointed that Acmer are telling me I need a new module, mine is less than 1 year old and has hardly been used. Apparently it is 6 month warranty, so if your laser does not work after 6 month you need to shell £500 pounds out for a new one. In my opinion this is very unfair, where do these people think we have £500 spare. I am now stuck with an unusable laser engraver with extension and a rotary. Thanks Acmer, you have acted amazingly 😭

My Honest Review of the Acmer S1 Mini 6W Laser Engraver (From a Total Beginner Who Bought It After Two Beers)

When you’re new to laser engraving, every purchase feels like a gamble. I’ve owned cheap 3D printers before — the sort that promise the world and deliver spaghetti sculptures — so I wasn’t keen on repeating that disappointment with a laser. I wanted something reliable, beginner‑friendly, and capable of producing results that didn’t look like they’d been drawn by a toddler with a magnifying glass. But after two beers and a moment of bravery, I clicked “Buy Now” on the Acmer S1 Mini 6W. And honestly, it might be the best tipsy decision I’ve ever made. Unboxing & First Impressions The first surprise was the size. The S1 Mini is tiny. Not “toy” tiny — more “this actually fits on my desk without rearranging my entire life” tiny. It’s lightweight too, which makes it easy to move around or store when not in use. For anyone working in a small space, this is a massive win. Acmer clearly designed this machine with beginners in mind. The frame is simple, the laser module slides neatly onto the bracket, and the cables are labelled and straightforward. No fiddly assembly. No swearing. No YouTube rabbit holes. Just a clean, sensible design that gets you from box to engraving in minutes. To protect my table, I screwed a 3D‑printed bracket onto a bit of scrap wood, placed the laser on top, plugged in the cable, and that was basically the entire setup. Coming from 3D printers that require a degree in mechanical engineering, this was bliss. Setup & Software The manual recommends LightBurn, and as someone who had never touched laser software before, I found it surprisingly intuitive. I connected via USB, installed LightBurn, and within 20 minutes I was engraving slate coasters and metal bottle openers like I’d been doing it for years. Acmer also provides their own software, but LightBurn is the industry standard — and the S1 Mini works perfectly with it. The manual includes preset settings for different materials: slate, wood, leather, stainless steel marking, acrylic, and more. And unlike many “starter” machines, these presets actually work. They’re not wildly optimistic guesses; they’re usable right out of the box. For a beginner, that’s a huge confidence boost. Performance & Engraving Quality Let’s talk about the laser itself. The S1 Mini uses a 6W optical output diode laser with a 0.06mm compressed spot, which is impressive for a machine in this price range. That tiny spot size is what gives you crisp detail — and it shows. My first test engraves were slate coasters. Clean lines, sharp detail, no burning or smudging. Then I tried metal bottle openers — again, great results. The laser handled both materials without hesitation. Over the next two weeks, I engraved: Slate,Bamboo,Leather,Powder-coated metal,Cardboard,MDF,Stainless steel (marking with tape) Every single material produced results far better than I expected from a “mini” engraver. The S1 Mini also includes: Safety glasses Test materials Tools to replace almost any part High-speed engraving capability For a beginner machine, it’s surprisingly capable. Daily Use & Reliability I’ve used this laser almost every day for two weeks now. It’s been rock-solid. No weird behaviour, no random disconnects, no overheating. The frame stays stable, the module stays aligned, and the results stay consistent. The lightweight design makes it easy to move around, but it still feels sturdy enough for daily use. I’ve run long engraving jobs without any issues, and the machine hasn’t once complained. For a budget-friendly diode engraver, the reliability is genuinely impressive. Who This Laser Is For If you’re a hobbyist, a crafter, or someone just getting into laser engraving, the Acmer S1 Mini 6W is absolutely spot-. It’s affordable, easy to use, beginner-friendly, and capable of producing genuinely impressive results. It’s not trying to compete with industrial CO₂ machines — but it is punching well above its weight for a diode engraver. It’s the kind of machine that lets you learn, experiment, and build confidence without feeling overwhelmed. The Unexpected Side Effect: Addiction I enjoyed this machine so much that I’ve already ordered the Acmer P3 48W. That should tell you everything. The S1 Mini didn’t just meet my expectations — it pushed me further into the hobby. If you’re on the fence, especially if you’ve been burned by cheap machines before, this is the one to start with. It’s compact, capable, and confidence boosting. Final Thoughts The Acmer S1 Mini 6W is a brilliant entry-level laser engraver. It’s easy to set up, easy to use, and produces results that look far more “professional” than you’d expect from a small diode machine. For beginners, hobbyists, or anyone wanting a reliable desk-friendly engraver, it’s a fantastic choice.
